We are representing a fast-growing medical device startup based in Oslo developing next-generation connected healthcare technology. They are seeking a Senior / Lead Full-Stack Engineer to take ownership of their cloud platform, shape engineering standards, and help bridge the gap between embedded systems and scalable clinical data infrastructure.
This is a role for a "full-system thinker" - someone who understands not just software components, but how data flows end-to-end from device to clinician, and who can influence both architecture and engineering culture.
Candidates must be based in the Oslo area currently, on-site requirement of 3-days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Take full ownership of a cloud-native AWS infrastructure built using AWS CDK, designing and maintaining scalable, event-driven microservices using services such as Lambda, EventBridge, S3, and DynamoDB.
- Lead the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines, technical documentation, and release processes aligned with IEC 62304 medical device software standards, ensuring compliance is embedded into engineering workflows.
- Build and maintain full-stack data systems, from high-frequency IoT ingestion (MQTT/WebSockets) through to clinical-grade reporting and visualization layers using GraphQL and D3.js.
- Collaborate closely with embedded software engineers to optimize data flow from sensor-level firmware through to cloud infrastructure and end-user applications.
- Drive engineering best practices, mentoring team members and setting high standards for code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
Key Skills and Requirements:
Experience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have operated in environments where quality, safety, and reliability are critical.
- Prior experience in MedTech, FinTech, Aerospace, or similarly regulated/high-integrity domains.
- Strong cloud engineering background, with willingness and ability to engage with C/C++ or embedded systems concepts to understand the full system lifecycle.
- Demonstrated ability to think beyond features and focus on end-to-end user (clinician) experience and system outcomes.
- Comfortable taking ownership in ambiguous environments and helping define engineering direction.
Technical Profile
- Cloud / DevOps: Expert-level experience with AWS, particularly CDK, EventBridge, S3, DynamoDB, ECS, and event-driven architectures.
- Backend: Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js; experience with Java is a plus.
- Frontend: Strong experience with React.js, with a passion for building intuitive and performant data visualization interfaces using D3.js.
- Data & APIs: Experience designing and working with GraphQL APIs, as well as real-time IoT data pipelines using MQTT and WebSockets.
- Engineering Practices: Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, automated testing strategies, and controlled release environments, ideally within regulated or safety-critical systems.
